The idea is to write drivers for various brands of monitors, and then be able to have your mapping program write to a single "generic" field device, and have the driver convert the standard format to a specific controller's proprietary format. Kind of like plugging in the driver for a new printer, and Word just automatically works with it. Several companies use FODM (the Field Operations Data Model) as a standardized interface into various colors of field devices via the FODDs. | |
