West Kentucky
Too take the opposite side of the argument, starter almost never pays here. It camouflages symptoms sometimes but will make a positive return on investment far less them 1 in 4. Our soil types are clay based and most are well drained (but not all). We have had a little better return on investment with fungicide, but not necessarily because we always make more yield. I think fungicide on corn almost always helps harvestablity (unless you harvest all of your corn high moisture) so there is a return on investment there also. If you are growing continuous corn, I would say fungicide would be my preference hands down. If your fertility is good and corn is grown in rotation, I would say that you could probably do without both on low grain price years on come out as good if not better.
