| IMO, Dual Power is as bulletproof as anything built in the day. Ford started using Dual Power in the late '60s. Never been around a JD but always figured Dual Power was a similar design to the JD Quad Range.
Got the Dual Power in my 9600 rebuilt along with a new main clutch and some PTO work a couple years ago for $7K at dealer shop. Clutch was the reason to tear into it. Clutch wouldn't release. Started out for town and clutch turned loose completely so ended up hauling the tractor anyway.
The Dual Power is a 4 speed transmission with 2 ranges and a hi-low in each range. Ultimately gives a selection of 16F and 4 reverse gears. Don't know about TW shifters but in the X600 Ford shifting is not bad as long as the linkage is adjusted correctly.
Not sure if I would want DP on a loader tractor now after owning a tractor with shuttle shift. Dual Power is perfectly adequate for tillage and hay operations.
I also think to be fair, a TW30 or TW35 would be more comparable to a 4640. A TW20 or TW25 would compare to a 4440.
