Subject: Re: Ford TW-20 vs John Deere 4640

If the condition of the two tractors are equal and money allows I would go with he Deere. My dad has 3 fords (4600, TW10 and TW20) right now and after running those and running Deeres the Deere is quieter, is better on fuel, starts better, is easier to get parts for, parts are cheaper, the hydraulics are better visibility is better, seat is better. Both have the same wide hood problem so that's a down for both. Power shift will be nicer to hay with as long as a speed matches what ya need. The 4640 won't have a 540 pto which the ford will if that is a consideration.

Both will do a good job of turning diesel into noise and smoke, I would rather run the deere personally after using both in row crop use. Also if anyone wants to argue the fuel usage a few weeks back I posted a graph of fuel useage vs pto horsepower of a TW20 vs 4630. The TW20 uses more than the 4630 and a 4640 is better on fuel than a 4630.
