western iowa,by Denison
I have 100 acres I can rent ya Mark-lets see what happens-figure can run 50 cows with calves-but you will have to buy feed if the millet gets short-and have big pile of silage-more like maybe run 25 pair if your lucky-wonder where a guy would get corn silage if them acres are already grazing with cows on it?
25 cows-bought cheap?$25,000-100 acres rent @200 $20,000-cost for cow-1 year of grazing $800-sell calf-100% calf crop@$1400 hdx25 +$35,000-rent= $15,000 return of $150 acre-sell cow because forgot the bull-cows thin-puff comes from Floridia-buys for $400 -$15,000-whole project = zero,which is what we had before-
Landlady, very happy-has $200 acre rent in her pocket($20,000)buys 25 feeder cattle-buys 100 bushel cheap corn, cattle gain well and makes $200 a head after paying feedlot yardage-also rents her ground out again for $20,000-now she has $45,000 from 2 years rent and 1 turn of feeding cattle!
Well that's what happened to my landlady anyhow but with a lot different numbers-Loading her Fat cattle Monday and near as I can tell her 80 head of heifers are going to weigh 1300#-she paid $775 last yr for them weighing 500# and sold em ahead at the summer low of $127
