Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | Just talking to a dairy farmer who has started a small beef herd who was bemoaning all the problems of keeping beef cattle. In his view dairy cows are easier because you can keep them locked up, if you lose the calf you still get to milk the cow, etc, etc. He's getting a whole new education about risk/reward and livestock skills, feeding etc. that he never had to learn in thirty years of milking cows. And surprise, surprise beef cattle are work.
As hard as I work raising crops I worked three times harder keeping cattle for a tenth of the money.
Food is undervalued, including beef and until you can at least make minimum wage doing it, you shouldn't and I won't. |
