| Do any of you NewAgTalkers have any commentary/thoughts/advice on the rice market. I am a rice producer and have over half of my production tied up with basis contracts at levels that are much better than the present basis levels. I havent locked any prices in yet and dont want to get too greedy yet maximize my price gains. I look at a website called riceonline.com every couple of days. It has news about rice from around the world. For the last 2-3 weeks about every article is about the shortage of rice. Just wondering if rice can and will do what wheat did this past winter. It is well on its way. I believe the US produces about 2% of the worlds rice but is one of the top 4 or 5 exporting countries of rice. Most of the big exporters of rice still consume most of what they produce. Rice is such a staple world wide that shortages can create havoc as bad and probably worse that wheat.
