Red River Valley, MN | See attached photo/link....notice the soil PH and the phosphorus level (4ppm Olsen)...
What is the best way to go about fertilizing this field? Is it possible to build the P levels in a soil with such a high ph? or is it just a waste of money to apply anything more than crop removal or even 5 gal of 10-34-0?
I look at the thousands of pounds of MAP applied over the years and the thousands of dollars spent, and I'm wondering whether or not it has done any good. Our phosphorus soil test levels haven't changed for 20 years, but we've spent a lot of money trying to make them change.
Why cant I just run 5 gallons of 10-34-0 as my only phosphorus? Am I going to be out anything? Wont anything more than that just get tied up anyway....especially if it were broadcasts spread?
Curious to know what others think.
