| Hey guys. Im new around here been reading for a while though. I have a farm with high ph levels that really has me scratching my head, and I was hoping you guys could give me a little feed back. I have on farm in the river valley that is flat but drains well with a silt loam soil. PH levels are mostly in the 7.4 - 7.8 range with a few spots on the grid hitting 8 and the very lowest being 7. I am continuous corn on this farm.
P levels range anywhere from 119 ppm to 170 ppm all very high. Weak bray levels though are in the 6ppm - 18ppm range all medium to very low.
K levels are from 340- 389 ppm.
Calcium levels are very high as well and Mg levels range in the medium to low. c.e.c. is 20-30. Iron, copper and boron are all in the low category for the most part with a few in the M. Excess lime is in the Medium as well.
I have been told to broadcast more p&k, but feel I am going to go nowhere with that because obviously there is plenty in the soil it is just tied up. In the areas of lower ph (7) I am getting plenty of p&k to the plant and the yield reflects that. I was told that putting on #300/ ac of Ammonium sulfate would help free up some of that tied up nutrient and take advantage of it. I feel if this would work it would be the way to go since I am adding N that I can credit for the growing season from the AMS. Thanks in advance I know there is a bunch of knowledge floating around this forum so this is where I thought I would ask!
Also any input for starter fert in this type of soil would be helpful.
