NoTill Ninja - 1/5/2014 07:26 On our old Kinze there was a setting to allow the front rank of clutched row units to shut off at a different time than the rear units. This was with clutches though, and it would have to "know" there were interplant units, and be given a distance from hitch and lateral offset. On the Kinze I had two Rawson drives, with switch 9 assigned to one drive, and switch 10 the other. That way I could stop a drive from spinning altogether if I wanted to.

tedbear - 1/5/2014 07:44The ability to have the front rank clutches shut off at a different time than the rear rank surprises me. Although this certainly seems reasonable and desirable, I did not think that it worked that way. I don't remember working on a Kinze but the interplant setups that I remember were always setup so that the interplant rows were mated with the "regular" row beside them. They cycled ON/OFF together. That brings up the issue of the hitch length. The usual advice was to split the difference between the front and rear ranks.

The original rawson controller had a jump start switch and a 3 position switch that when was in the center position, run both drives. When either in the left or right position, the corresponding drive would run. The SM3000 had a small 2 position toggle switch, installed by the dealer, on the top of the display that shut off the 1-8 or 7-15 rows from being monitored. Also had a on/off toggle next to it that would shut that loud speaker off.

It worked great. Come to the end of the endgun throw on the pivot, shut off the back toolbar, continue planting the dryland corner, come to the end of the field, turn around and shut off the front toolbar and plant with the rear units until you got back to the irrigated land by the pivot.

That way you could still hill on 30" rows and pipe irrigate the corners.

I assumed I would still be able to do this when this system was installed last spring. Was not the case. Couldn't even run the front and back rawson drives to calibrate speed. Had to unplug the front drive out of the module and plug the rear drive into number one's connector on the module to get it calibrated.

When I get the planter out of cold storage this spring, I will look into adding this 3 position switch back into the mix. If agleader can't do it. I would think it would be easy enough to tie into the wires on the module that supplies power to each rawson. Which is a shame with all of those switches on the switch box going to waste. Though it is fun riding along in the tractor with the geosteer steering and playing with all those switches when you get bored.
