| I had always used SF2 for planting and was very pleased with it. We run SF1 on the other tractor on the drill, nh3 etc and get along ok. This spring we didn't buy the SF2 and I planted corn with the SF1. I didn't like it, could tell it wasn't as accurate.
At harvest I found out just how far off SF1 really was. Multiple times per field the guess rows would be so close that the corn head was gathering the next row, if it wasn't actually pullling it in it was knocking it enough that it would shake an ear off now and then.
We plant 16/32 and try to put a bean row on either side of the old corn row. Trying to do that with SF1 would be frustrating in my opinion.
To me planting with SF1 is only slightly better than driving it by hand except you gain the ability to auto steer and can relax while you're driving.
Row control on the planter was a mixed bag with SF1. For simple shut off at the end of the row SF1 did good enough and I really could not tell a big difference. However through the field it goes back to the guess rows being so close that the corn head gathered up the next row. I noticed times when the control shut down the end row because it "sensed" that it was too close to the last pass.
It all depends on what you will be happy with. | |
