I agree w/you. Don't I understand that we have Tier 5 coming at us yet? This isn't over, I don't believe.

"The EPA has adopted the California emissions standards as a national standard by the 2016 model year[4] and is collaborating with California regulators on stricter national emissions standards for model years 2017–2025.[5]"

Not yet, its been discussed but is not on the books at all. They are starting with on road vehicles, as always they start with passenger vehicles, then move to trucking and then to off road engines in Ag/Construction/Mining then to marine and locomotive.

Right now they are squeezing the passenger and trucking markets with fuel efficiency regulations. 2016 is the big year for trucking IIRC, they have a pretty tough standard to meet. Once they get done with that I am sure they will focus back on emissions.

The "talked about" future emissions regulations focus on reducing C02 emissions. How they are going to go about this I do not know because fuels have a certain amount of C02 they produce when burned. I am no chemist but it seems like it would require another chemical reaction in an aftertreatment system.

I don't know enough about the environment to make an educated guess on what the C02 stuff is really all about, but some of the stats you see show that all of our efforts reducing the emissions of engines is like dropping a penny in the ocean.
