SW Ohio | Hope this helps, this is a scan from a 1969 parts book. It looks like the 29cent pin pushes on the two gears #33 which would engage either the big 540 gear or the spring #30 should shift it back to engage small 1000 gear, at least that is what I get from a quick glance. I had a question back on your orignal post about whether some 4010's only had 540 with no guts inside for 1000, but a glance through the parts book shows a 540/1000 page and a 1000 only page and a none/ page
