West Central Indiana
Bought first farm in 1987 (114 ac for $108,575) from Federal Land Bank...was 23 years old. Good timing looking back but raised 55bu corn in 1988 drought with no crop insurance. Those were hard times for many but full of opportunity for a kid who had nothing but owed nothing. Good timing for me involved much luck. Friends a few years older did not make it. Born at the right time...smarts had much less to do with it. Thought my Dad was too conservative going into those times...turns out he was not. Now my son thinks the same of me these days! Hope he is right.
