This was a great thread to read. I happen to be in the crop insurance industry (agent) and was curious what other farmers thoughts of this product were. We didn't have any takers but would have been more than happy to sell it.
MPD 4 and MPD 5 have the potential to be a GREAT product, if the market plays out correctly. Obviously you could be losing your $7 an acre by purchasing the add on if Feb is the highest price or if the fall price exceeds what you get your spring price set at. $7 an acre can be lost many ways. Snake oil trials and such. I figured its worth a try. If it works great if not oh well. It's a risk just like the industry as a whole and a speculation just as some who want to load down with options on the cbot. It's a risk management tool. |
