Converting limestone that is calcium carbonate to sodium carbonate that has little flavor and doesn't inhibit soap suds because sodium carbonate is called "washing soda". If you evaporate such softened water it will leave behind as much volume of mineral as the raw water from the well had. Gerald J. I was using the word "filter" as reference to the ion exchange process . . . . I guess, it becomes as confusing as the sales pitch by the softener and filter companies out there . . . . but, it seems to be an industry used term (filter) over the exchange process of the chemistry that really happens. |
