The rest of the story:A drip system adds a 3% bleach solution straight in to the well as needed for hydrogen sulfide smell.

Then water  is pumped through a Pyrolox fleck 7000 Iron, Manganese, Sulfer filter. Back flushes every 3 days.

Then through the whirlpool water softener, and finally through a whole house water filter.

The system is 4 yrs old.

I assume the softener would need tobe  disconnected to be rinsed with the acid?

Thanks,

John

You have some serious water conditioning challenges . . . . .

If you can find or have the manual for your softener, it should explain the steps to recharge/flush your softener.

Same with your Pyrolox per treater filter . . .

They both likley need to have the resin beds cleaned and flushed a couple times.

On my softener, i do need to bypass the softener, unplug the unit, to allow it to flush out for 10-15 mins. The system's brain doesn't allow it to flush that long on its own.

I dump twice the amount recommended, of iron out (dissolved), in the bottom of my brine tank. then fill it with solar salt cystals, then regen it and then flush the softener, manually.

What type of pressure tank do you have ? A steel tank, with air relief - works better for sulfur smells then a bladder tank. Seems the sulfur smell disapates in an steel non-bladder tank, when it hits the air above the water. In a bladder tank, the water never interacts with air, untill it comes out of your faucets and the smell escapes, under your nose. But, some sulfurs are worse then others, so the pressure tank maynot make a difference, in your case and set up.

We are dealing with a kinetico system (iron filter, softener and whole line filter) at our twp . . .. I'm not willing to spend $3900 for a new kinetico. The system is around 5 and 7 yrs old. But, the twp has high iron content, so any system will not last forever.

Those that say they systems are lasting for more then 10 yrs, I'm going to guess, they have easy water to clean/condition. And/or they manually run a cleaner cycle several times a year, in addition to the regen cycle the conditioner runs.

Water Right is one of the larger water softener componant companies in the US. They make up most of the non-big name softeners out there. http://www.water-right.com/
