Faunsdale, AL | I am wondering if the "double CV shaft" has one set or two. I really doubt there is any reason for having 2 on it. I would look at a redesign to a single CV joint at the tractor end and a single joint to the over-running clutch at the implement end.
The typical shaft I see these days has the drawbar pin much closer to the tractor end than to the implement end. That makes the angle a lot sharper on the joint next to the tractor when turning, so the CV needs to be there.
The old way of doing it was to make the shaft a short one with the drawbar pin in the center of the distance, so the whole shaft acted like a CV joint. Had one or two of those that worked really well until the support for the intermediate bearing got worn out and started to chatter. Then they got changed over to a single long shaft and we just quit turning sharp. | |
