The electric ones are very rugged. They can carry the torque to drive half of a 16/31 planter, even with vac meters. The trouble with them is power. We used to put four of them on a planter, to break the planter into 4 sections, before row clutches became popular/affordable. They would give trouble popping a 30 amp fuse. It's not that they take much power, but they take a high surge when the solenoid first engages. It would take very substantial wiring to supply power for more than 4 of these.
