SE Texas Panhandle | Upkeep is not that big of an issue don't let that be a deciding factor. If I have enough acres every year to justify picking is a bigger concern for me. I sold a 9996 in 2011 and now have 2 7460's and am satisfied at this point. They fit me better right now, with droughts and some water issues. Picker's will make a lot of money some years, but probably not this year with the overall quality out there. The last 3 years I have had some cotton custom picked and am not sure that is not the best direction for me. As for the studies between the 2 I never agreed either as it varies so much from field to field. As for defoliation I only made 1 shot with a picker, but this year we only done 1 with the strippers too. Capacity wise no comparison between the 2. If U buy a picker keep spindles and doffers in good shape and there will be no troubles. All in all I still need those stripper for dryland and shorter irrigated so that's where i'm at now. | |
