Subject: RE: Cotton stripper versus cotton picker

Medicine Mound,TX
We bought a picker this year. Have run strippers my entire life. We went crazy trying to stuff 4 bale cotton thru the cleaner on our 7460. I only have half a crop put through it, but I don't think I will ever strip irrigated cotton again. We may have more humidity than you out on the plains, but the picker would do 3 times more than our stripper. 1.6mph to 4.2 and a basket twice the size. I already had everything defoliated for stripping, so I can't comment on spraying cost yet, but I can tell you I waited a good week for leaves to fall off and if I had the picker already I would have been going. I have no way to measure it, but it looks like it did just as good or better as far as leaving cotton in the field.

I can't fathom that a baler stripper will do what 2 basket strippers will. Maybe 1.5 if it was good cotton having to stop and dump a lot. There are a lot of other advantages thou, like not worrying about wind and having everything tarped already. Less labor.
