BT applied foliar is THE insecticide approved for organic.
Well, not THE insecticide, as there are several types of insects on which it does not work, but yes, it is the insecticide of choice for most flies and butterflies, and their caterpillars and worms, especially on allium, cabbages and some root vegetables. I have applied it myself in organic farms. Still, you cannot compare a few punctual external applications to every internal cell producing 24/7 its own Bt toxin during the whole life cycle of the plant, probably including after the plant being harvested, since some cellular activity continues once the plant is harvested. It kind of makes it impossible to establish the usual safety guidelines for pesticides, such as not spraying for a certain number of days before the harvest.
Just for the fun of it, I would actually love to see a study comparing the amount of Bt in corn between organics and GMOs.
