That chain hoist likely would not work for pulling sideways and that is the type of use I mostly need my cheap Chinese cable winch for. I've got an old chain hoist from probably the 1950s for vertical lifting and it works great but not any good at all for sideways pulling . Chains tangle up.
A better come-along.
