Use SST Summit. That's what we do. I make yield maps and prescriptions myself. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to do it.

dgramenz,

Thanks for pointing out SST Summit. Did a quick poke through their web site. They have a very large scope as far as data aggregation goes and seem to be working through data standards and formats. I would assume this takes significant effort and resources and that they would probably like to realize a return on this effort. All in all a warm and fuzzy for a company that is pushing the envelope. But then I see stuff like their motto... "Manage Data, Harvest Information", or in their agX Platform data sheet

"Whether you are an established, multi-national company desiring to develop your own precision farming applications or a small start-up, the agX Platform instantly provides the essential underlying infrastructure, data processing, and content delivery options so that you can focus your efforts on developing tools that meet the industry's needs."

Really, multi-national, ummm wonder what kind of application that might be?

Or...

"SyncNow provides you with the ability to exchange data for various operations while utilizing permission settings and administrator privileges to determine which parties can receive and edit data. "

So they have at least addressed which layers and how much of it can/will be shared but I couldn't find the specifics. This product is licensed as a platform to essentially access their growing database. It is up to the end user to write applications that fit their prec. ag goals using their API calls. To me this looks like their multi-nat offering. We have the data, we'll give you the hooks (API calls) to access it, and you can roll your own custom analytics program to meet your needs.

Their FarmRite offering appears to be their interpretation of a totally cloud based solution. Your data would end up in agX (see above) with varying degrees of sharing depending on which switches the subscriber throws.

Summit is their hybrid product, ie part cloud and part local data. I can't figure out if your data stays local and the cloud is accessed to process prescriptions? Maybe someone more familiar with the product can chime in. There are two tiers, Professional and Basic, the former appears to enable batch processing and some additional reporting/analytics functions. Here you go Mult-Nats. Basic appears to be targeted at producers/scouts/farm managers. Well, I downloaded the 60 pg. user guide so we'll see what it says about sharing/syncing. I suspect that you may or may not share your yield data with your fert. application specialist. I have the feeling that any GIS layers that hit their server are theirs for the keeping to use as they see fit. Someone please prove I'm wrong! If calculating your Rx locally only accesses their algorithms for processing then maybe it's okay. They do of course offer a sync product to back up your data in their cloud.

They claim to have 80 million acres in 22 countries under management, or in other words available for rent. A service like this IS where your data potentially goes and gets put to use by entities other than yourself. I'll wager they pull way more coin in from the renting of data to multi-nats. than they do from piddly producer subscription fees. But if they want the data from Deere-Dupont they probably have to pay for it, just a guess. Pretty soon I'll be able to retire my tinfoil hat as it appears this is much closer than I once thought.

Thoughts?
