And now here's the tricky part, uploaded to software vendor's cloud encrypted. So your local setup with be the software you purchased/leased, an encryption key unique to you, and access to your data on their server but in an encrypted format.
So where is the incentive to the software vendor or other 3rd-party? Encrypted data is a no-brainer (just hope it's done correctly, unlike Amazon), but if only YOU have the key, why would a vendor want to allow you to store data on their server? What do they get out of the arrangement?

I was not aware that Mapshots was wrapped up by Pioneer, which really means Dupont. I guess I missed the press release on that one.
It happened at the end of 2008.
