Michigan. | Glass was stressed somewhere on the bottom where it rests in the sliding frame.
If you pick up one of those doors, you'll there is a LOT of vertical pressure exerted on the bottom edge.
It just takes a chip, or crack to form, and sooner or later it will do what glass does.
I was in our small town glass shop getting a new panel for a woodburning stove, when a recently delivered sheet of 1/4" glass cut loose.
Freaked me out properly. The shop owner said "Must have gotten a chip we didn't see", and mentioned it happens every now and then in the shop.
