If trees are an issue, I'd look at the radio for the base station. Is it a 900 or a 450 mhz? 450 radios mean you have to have the license, but they are much more useful at penetrating through obstacles like trees. GLONASS helps add more birds in the sky for satellites in common if you can only see around 5 to 7 satellites.
