Subject: Re: Phosphate question

Martinsville, Ohio
Crops uptake less phosphorous at lower temperatures. Many farmers use a little "popup" in furrow or in the 2 by 2 for more phosphate mobility. It does help alleviate the purple corn syndrome but may not increase yield. 3 gallons of 6-24-6 in furrow will improve corn appearance here in my early notill planting. I prefer having plenty of nutrient in the soil solution at planting in any temperature. A good benefit of cover crops is keeping nutrients in the soil solution in the plow layer, plus all of the microbiology working around the root hairs.
