southern MN | I heard about the multi million dollar manure 'problem' a while ago in a coffee shop situation, and couldn't believe it. Had to look it up in print to see if it was a real story.
It would appear the area they plan to redevelop was an ill planned - well not planned, dumping site, and needs to be cleaned up, and manure is only one of the many components.
Why the manure was not used, but dumped in a landfill, is one of those unanswerable questions.... Some city fellas in charge of a state fair, need to get rid of this awful smelly waste, only thing to do is burry it?
But when this was reported in the state liberal newspaper, it was written of course like the only thing to do with manure is burry it, and treat it like a hazardous material. Reinforcing the publics preceptions of farm life.
We farmers do cause and have problems like any other group, but we don't need that kind of reporting. It seems to happen with increasing frequency. Ask the Hefty brothers how they like the Star Tibune some day.... ;)
It bugs me.
