I can't remember if SMS Basic is able to scale data, but I know you can in SMS Advanced with the following steps:
right click on the data you want to adjust
Add Simple Analysis
Scale Data
Select Area on the left and Add it to the right column
Next
Type in your adjusting factor (wanted acres / given acres)
Finish
Adjusting area in SMS basic ?
