I like to see stray volunteer radish, vetch, alfalfa, clover or wheat. They are weeds though and I am trying to grow a crop, not a mixed bag.

I like your thinking as "weeds" tell us a lot about our soil. If you see the brown poverty grass around here, you know that needs about 10 tons over time to get it back near neutral.

That's a great blog topic, I will have to think on that. Someone has posted something out of an old manual about what weeds tell you about soil but Google finds tons of links on the topic.
