Crivitz, WI | Not knowing much about electricity, i will answer the best of my knowledge. The first wire that went bad I believe was a phase wire. If I remember correctly when I would turn the bench grinder on (110 v) the air compressor would try starting (220v). That wire was bad underground from our shop to a sub panel in our yard that feeds the house and well. I'm going to guess that the guys that installed it nicked the wire when they buried it. The second wire was just outside our parlor where it comes out of one of the 400 amp breaker panels that goes to our feed bins. The motor was real lazy and then it was tripping the breaker. Same thing, wire was burned off under ground just outside the parlor. When we checked the bin panel one leg only had 40 volts. That was causing the cows to kick in the parlor bad. I was just out in the parlor and talked to my long time milkers and he said the cows are acting different lately and are hesitant to come in the parlor. He also said that he has to reattach about 3 milkers per 8 on a side because of poor milk let down. Our treated board is embarrassing. We never had this many treated non responsive cows ever. I also should note that 4-5 years ago our somatic cell was always 150-180. Now we struggle to get under 250. We are all sand bedded stalls. The whole farm should be 4 wire and we are single phase. It seems we are struggling to hit 80 lbs of milk right now also. Last winter we topped out at 96lbs per day being 150% stocking density.
Thanks for the replies.
