I tend to agree with bleedred. Vehicle suspension travel is probably going to be greater than actual elevation fluctuation. Depending on your collection program, it may only log a point every 10 feet. Most ground here is driven on 40-60 foot spacings plus ditch bottoms are followed. I believe in survey applications like you are referring to, the data collection program they are using is averaging for the 30 seconds. Most drainage design programs develop topo and contour maps by triangulation with the points it has to work with. If you are only collecting every 20 meters, the program will be doing a lot of smoothing.
