My antenna quit working on my 2388 with Pf Advantage monitor. It was the really small puck Garmin so I borrowed a slightly larger Garmin puck from a friend and it works perfectly. He does not want to sell it so I found the same antennas on e-bay (Garmin 16X 010-00258-63) They mostly say for marine use but they are the same as the one I borrowed. They cost about $100. Found one on an ag precision site for the AL Pf and it is $331. Will the e-bay models work or are they not configured properly for the PF Advantage?I know they are prone to "freeze" with improper components. Thanks, Rick

In my opinion they can work but are most likely not configured properly. Several years ago I bought a Garmin 17N (nautical) for use with my Ag Leader PF3000. I had two obstacles which I did overcome. 1) attaching a connector to the loose wires on the Garmin to connect it to the PF3000 (the Advantage uses a different connector but the problem may be the same) and 2) reprogramming the Garmin to output GPS in the style that the Ag Leader products require.

The reprogramming was done with an adapter I made which was essentially a null modem gender changer with external power to a 12V source. The program was downloaded from the Garmin website and allowed one to change the settings in the Garmin. The program was a bit confusing at first because I really didn't know what I was doing. Once the settings were changed to what the Ag Leader needs the GPS worked very well. I later sold the PF3000 and this GPS to a neighbor.

I did another one for a fellow AgTalk poster. It really was quite easy when it was fresh in my mind. As you have mentioned not having the settings correct can cause problems with the display.

I do remember of another source that would ship the Garmins wired and programmed correctly. Even though this was a bit more expensive I would recommend going that route unless you enjoy the challenge of going through what I did.
