Eastern Iowa
I agree with dvswia that the internal parts if the gear box last a long long time. it seems the firs thing to wear out ( besides the cluster gear failure) and other than the external replaceable seals is the bushing on the gathering chain sprocket shafts. If the grease was to get low this is the first area to be starved of grease or in my case on a very old head I use to have ( early 70s) the seals got bad and dirt got in, around and through the bushing and caked up the grease and prevented freash grease from augering up to lube the bushing causing increased wear. Those bushing are easily replaced. the rest are harder and require complete tear down and cleaning of the gear case. The old bushings need to be pressed or pounded out. On the head I have now I just replaced the seals while I put new rolls on it. I put on Calmer BT crushers, so I'm in the same boat as several others wondering if the triple gear will hold up. If I find I have to replace them I will get the gears from Calmer or Clark machine but I guess to answer you question, I wouldn't bother with a complete overhaul of the gear box, More like just fix what is broke.
