In the winter the ranches and herds are prepared for such events. Herds in winter yards close to feed and protection from elements. Now they are all still out grazing in rough country on there own. When weather like that hits they herd up and take protection in valleys or draws where the wind doesn't hit them and in large snowfalls with wind they literally get drifted over and soffocated under the snow that drifts in the valleys. My heart goes out to all who are dealing with this event.
