This was several years ago when I was doing straw.

Barn was built in 1880.

Pretty good shape has lots of room in side.

Takes a lot to keep these old buildings sound.

Just put metal roof on it last year.

Here is my great grandpa with his initials being U.S.A.

He was born in 1875 and was 5 years old when the barn was built in 1880. He was a tag ender younger than the rest of the kids by quite a bit. He got spanked and sent to the house for being in the way during the barn raising while his father and older brothers were busy putting it up.

I'm guessing this would have been around 1900 or shortly thereafter.

I'm also guessing this was his favorite team on the cement roller he is standing on.  "Pet" & "Bird" Those 2 were notorious for running off and tearing stuff up. They later took off with this cement roller and broke it all to pieces. They also took off once with a new JD 2 row corn planter. It was scattered from the field through 2 gates down to this barn.

He's on the roller, his wife to the right, his widowed mother to the left and the hired hand to her left.
