Hardware Disease? I see what you are saying on a steel belt earthmover tire used for a water tank Rich. But IMO a feed bunk is different. That cow will rub and scratch the same. In a water tank that is no big deal. I now have 9 earthmover tires installed as water tanks. Itsy bitsy pieces of wire that break off end up down the the water in the bottom of the tire and eventually rust away to nothing.

Same wire breaks off into your steel belt tire feeder with ground hay, whatever, cow is likely to ingest it.

Maybe I'm concerned over nothing but IMO it's something to consider.
