Crop insurance has done more for JD , CNH and AGCO than anything else. It also has distorted land values and cash rents and every community knows of someone who farms for the crop insurance. On the last one, it only works for a little while. Federal crop has put a false economy in the ag community. It is good while it lasts, except subsidies that create false economys do not last for ever.
