I'm pretty sure that you or anyone else is not special enough for the dealer to loose money on a parts sale.
That being the case, I agree with Sheep Herder. If I can find an item elsewhere at lesser cost, the dealer is not special enough for me to lose money on a parts purchase.
In my filter example below, I almost could have bought 2 of the lesser cost filters for the price of one dealer filter. Or one lesser cost filter and with the money I saved, stop in town for a nice steak dinner before coming home.
IMO, we all have a certain responsibilty to purchase wisely, or in the long term we won't be in business to support either dealers or aftermarket sources.
