Kubota is bad for keeping multiple filter listings. For mine the first number the come back with at the dealer is a 40$ one that is stubby. If you press the parts guy he clicks something and number for the normal tall filter for 12$ pops up that they also keep in stock. I bet 9/10 people buy the expensive stubby one with less filter area.

Maybe I should have questioned the Kubota parts man further if alternate filters were available. I simply walked up to the parts counter and said "I want an engine oil filter for a M126GX." He hesitated, and said "Kubota?" and I said yes.

The guy is a veteran parts man and has been behind their counter a long time. I realize the M series Kubota tractor line is relatively new but surely the parts man has sold filters before I came in. I can't get a number off the original filter because it was painted over at the factory.

I never asked either of the O'Reilly parts people about alternate filters available either. I went on the number the first guy gave me.

I don't have an accurate scale for weighing something this light. I'd ask to weigh both filters at my PO but won't risk getting my postmaster in trouble. I can't tell any meaningful difference in filter weights.

At any rate, I would not call either of these filters "stubby". Both filters approx 4 1/2" diameter. The Kubota filter at approx 6 1/2" tall is approx 1/4" taller than the Wix. I could not determine that for certain until I put them side by side on my kitchen table and checked with the tape measure.

The cardboard on the Kubota box is thicker than the box the Wix filters come in. The Kubota filter is also sealed in plastic inside the box, where the Wix is not covered in the box. That makes the decision for me to use the Wix now and save the Kubota filter for the next oil change.

Kubota filter has 8 holes around the center. Wix filter has 6.

Kubota filter part number is HH1G0-323430 and cost $37.24

Wix filter part number is 51714 and cost $17.99 + I did pay sales tax at O'Reilly. Kubota dealer did not charge me sales tax.

IMO, still seems like an unacceptable price difference.
