WC MN | If I am hearing this right these guys hedged all of their 13', 14', and 15' crop plus quite a bit extra for all the acres they are going to go out and bid on? My guess even if they hedged 14' and 15' at the top, by the time you take basis off and then the type of rent that you need to make the expansion happen, there will not be a huge amount of money left at all. Especially when we know not what the 2015 input costs will be. Not to mention you need to have production. If you just take the extra profit out of your hedge account then you have little risk. Going out and putting $700+ into growing a crop that may only have $450 of insurance protection next year is a risk to those extra profits. | |
