That is why I included the link to the Bank Participation Report. The CFTC segregates and does the work for you, just as they do on the long/short form with total long/short positions and change. I cannot find a good reason to go anywhere else for numbers plainly published. It is straight forward.  

An example: When the CFTC published the 9/3/13 report, the OI in gold was 388k. Banks were long 93k and short 85k. What you do with that data is your work and interpretation.  

I would caution anyone who would take a snapshot and deduce anything meaningful, hence, the links to history.
