Manitoba | We are all selling grain into the world market which is distorted by subsidies. The US doesnt export as large a percentage of its production as Canada or Australia do so you are a little more isolated from everyone elses subsidies but your still affected by world markets. In the US you have quite a bit more protection from low yields and low prices. I think the EU still has fairly large subsidies. In western Canada we used to have a subsidy on rail freight but its been lost. In the US I believe the federal govt maintains the river systems for grain(and other freight) shipping, could be called a subsidy. Like that which was already mentioned high subsidies do get capitalized into land values and rent levels. | |
