Subject: RE: Tell me about non steerable pup hopper trailers

central South Dakota
I've had my truck and pup for 4 years. Legal loads of wheat are 600 bu. in the truck and 500 bu. in the pup. Truck is stretched out semi with lift tag. Have long tongue on pup dolly w/tandem axles, single axle 24' trailer. Truck box is 24' also. Wanted larger box for hauling sunflowers. I have almost never needed to back up my pup. Did it a couple years ago to get pup on drive-over transfer because wide steer tires on my truck are too wide to drive across drive-over transfer without making drive-over a bit wider. My pup is hopper-bottom. When I was putting together this package, I had concerns about not being able to back up handily, but it hasn't been a problem. Would have gotten a turntable that could be locked in center position, but place I had the dolly lengthened at used fifth wheel plates. Really pleased with the set-up. Like the dump box on truck for loading seed in air seeder. Hopper trailer pup is great, trailer trails tighter than rear tires on conventional semi trailer.
