if you're seeing no yield or very low yield at the beginning of a pass, you're probably also seeing "yield" in the endrows as you turn. This indicates your flow delay is too short, so try increasing it by 1 second, cut a round or two, and then check your map. If it looks good, you're done. If it's better but not right yet, increase by another second and try again.
