cropsey, il 61731 | My hope is that there would be a squeeze with old crop and give us another nice pricing opportunity when we have a better idea of what our crop will make. The squeeze is later than expected or at least that's how I see folks here thinking and we are having a little trouble getting a handle on what's really out there. I've priced half my bean crop around $13 6+ months ago and here we are again. Corn sales near $6 but we have a ways to go yet. A decent crop at those prices would do wonders for retiring debt. But enough about my poor marketing.....
Who is really in the driver seat here? Thinking that a significant number of end users completely missed the drought of 2012 and have done nothing to cover needs now would be a mistake in my opinion. I'm sure they jumped in on some of the recent lower prices just because it's low, but i'm guessing after the last few years all of us expected high prices late this summer. Ethanol is running along, though the blend wall still may be a factor at some point. Soooooo, our friends the speculative funds are back in a big way? Previous losses now all forgiven and they'll get it right this time around. I guess it doesn't matter what their motivation is, my question is whether or not they are in for a little while. | |
