The solution is this:
Edit Layer --> select by filter
Select by attribute (specifiy date/time greater-than/less-than the value needed)
Remove the selected points and save as new layer (Do the same thing and invert your selection and this leaves two new layers)
Delete the old layer from the management tree and keep the two new layers.
