They used to work like that on large fields. Without Autotrack that was the most efficient way to work on large fields. When we finished the field we just cut the corners and all done.
My opinion is that the world changed since with the auto pilot systems are in use.
It is easy to make passes to make the header full all the time with multiple machines and not drive too much on headlands without cutting.
I know by experience because we are practicing it with 3 machines in our farm.
