nc ks | 64 days w/o rain is extreme for even here. Go west 100 miles and they are very used to that. The biggest trouble we usually have is 20-30 days over 100 degrees in the summer. Very rarely have many days that aren't in the 90's, especially when it is dry. The high pressure usually pivots around us and we are often the hottest spot in the nation give or take 90 miles south (not including Death Valley and such). Probably over half of our cropland had not had a rain event over .5 inch for 10 months until 3 weeks or so ago when it got 2-3 inches. Other half has had higher than normal rains but predominantly not well timed. Crops look pretty good considering and the milo looks very good. What we haven't had for the most part this year is excessive heat and that is why we still had crops that could take advantage of the rain a few weeks ago, but now we are running on empty again with unusually tender crops and heat. | |
